Measuring the Correct Curtain Width

Measure the width of the curtain track or pole, not the window itself. This measurement is crucial as we will use the track or pole width to determine the amount of fabric needed for your curtains. Typically, the width of the curtains cannot be adjusted once they are made, so it's essential to ensure the measurement is as accurate as possible. If you are installing a new track or pole, it should extend 15cm to 20cm beyond each side of the window and at least 15cm above it.

Curtain Poles

To measure for a curtain pole, simply measure the width of the pole between the finials or end caps. This measurement is the width you should provide.

Curtain Tracks

To measure for a standard curtain track, measure the entire length of the track. This measurement is the width you should provide.

  • Pro Tip

If you need to order a single curtain, follow the same process and then contact our friendly sales team to place your order.

Curtain Tracks with Overlap

For tracks with an overlap in the center, measure the full width of the track (a) and the width of the overlap (b). Add these two measurements together to determine the width you should provide.

Curtain Tracks

To measure for a standard curtain track, measure the entire length of the track. This measurement is the width you should provide.

Measuring the Correct Curtain Drop

Curtains can be hung to the floor, to the window sill, or just below the window sill. We recommend that curtains should finish:
1.5 cm above the floor
15-20 cm below the sill (or 2-3 cm above the radiator)
1.5 cm above the sill

  • Pro Tip

It's crucial to leave a small gap at the bottom of the curtains. If they touch the floor, they may become marked or frayed over time.

Pencil Pleat & Double Pinch Pleat Pole Heading

When using a curtain pole, measure from the bottom of the decorative ring to the desired curtain length.

Pencil Pleat & Double Pinch Pleat Track Heading

When using a curtain track, measure from the top of the track to the desired curtain length.

Eyelet Heading

Our eyelet heading curtains are designed to fit poles up to 30mm in diameter. Measure from the top of the pole to the desired curtain length. We will automatically include 3cm of fabric above the top of the eyelet where it sits on the pole, so you only need to measure from the top of your curtain pole.

How to Measure for Back Tab Curtains

Follow these steps to measure for back tab curtains:

Determine the Position of the Curtain Rod:

Install the curtain rod so that it extends 15-20 cm beyond each side of the window and at least 15 cm above the window. This ensures the curtains fully cover the window and provide optimal light blocking and aesthetics.

Measure the Width:

Measure the width of the curtain rod from one finial to the other. This is the width you need to provide. Ensure the measurement is accurate to ensure a perfect fit for your curtains.

Measure the Length:

Measure from the top of the curtain rod to the desired length of your curtains. Depending on your preference, you can choose from the following lengths:
To the floor: Measure to 1.5 cm above the floor to prevent the curtains from dragging and causing wear.
To the window sill: Measure to 1.5 cm above the window sill to ensure a neat appearance.
Below the window sill: Measure to 15-20 cm below the window sill, or 2-3 cm above the radiator, to provide good coverage.
