How to hang curtains...

At Homevery, we take great pride in our curtains. Follow these instructions to hang your new curtains like a pro!

Eyelet Curtains

These curtains are quick and easy to hang! Slide each eyelet onto the pole, ensuring the leading and outside edges of the curtain face towards the window. Place the final eyelet between the bracket and the finial. There you have it, all done. Now you can relax.

Double Pinch Pleat Curtains

Pinch pleat curtains come pre-pleated, making them quick and easy to hang while looking elegant.

Determine Hook Placement

The main task is to decide where to position the hooks at the back of each pleat. For curtain poles, place the hook at the top of the heading to ensure the curtain hangs just below the pole. For curtain tracks, position the hook in the middle of the heading to cover the track.

Hanging Your Curtains

Ensure you have the same number of track gliders or pole rings as pleats, then simply attach the hooks. For curtain poles, place the final hook between the bracket and the finial. For curtain tracks, attach the final hook to the fixed glider at the end. Once done, sit back and enjoy your beautifully hung curtains.

Pencil Pleat Curtains

If you're new to hanging pencil pleat curtains, our detailed instructions will guide you through the process. Rest assured, it's more about common sense than complexity! The key is to take your time.

Securing the Cords

Before gathering the fabric, ensure the cords are securely tied. You need to tie the cords at one end of the heading tape to prevent it from unraveling during the gathering process, which can be problematic. Most people prefer to tie the cords at the leading edge, where the two curtains meet in the middle. (In the unlikely event that the heading tape does unravel, you can use a tapestry needle to re-thread the cords through the holes.)

Checking the Width

Before gathering, use a tape measure to check the required width of the curtain. It's advisable to gather the curtain a few centimeters wider than needed, so you don't have to tug each side to make them meet in the middle when hung.

Gathering

Take hold of the loose cords at the untied end and start pulling them evenly. This ensures that the pleats are straight and neat.

  • Pro Tip

It's often easier to check the evenness of the pleats by looking at the heading tape rather than the actual pleats.

Securing the Curtains

Once you're satisfied with the curtain's width, tie the cords securely. Do not cut the cords, as you may need to loosen the curtain for cleaning or re-hanging at a different window in the future.

To prevent the long cords from dangling, wind them up over your hand. Some people prefer to secure the cords to the lining with a safety pin to keep them hidden.

Inserting the Hooks

At this stage, ensure that your gathers are even. Although this requires patience, it is well worth the effort.

Count the number of gliders or rings on your track or pole and divide by two. This gives you the number of hooks needed for each curtain.

Before inserting the hooks into the pockets, place them loosely on the heading tape to achieve even spacing, giving your curtain a professional finish. Ensure a hook is placed on the outer edge of the curtain to keep it securely at the end of the track or pole when closed. Also, position the hook on the leading edge to achieve a neat overlap with the other curtain when closed.

The heading tape has three rows of pockets. For curtain tracks, insert the hooks into the lower or middle row to hide the track. For poles, insert the hooks into the top row so that the curtain hangs below the pole. Make sure to insert the hooks into the pockets and not onto the cords.

Now, place the hooks into the selected row of pockets.

Hanging Your Curtains

It's easier to hang curtains with assistance, as one person can hold the curtain's weight while the other attaches it. This prevents the pleats from shifting if the curtain hangs mid-air for a while. For curtain poles, place the final hook between the bracket and the finial. For curtain tracks, attach it to the fixed glider at the end.

Back Tab Curtains

If you're new to hanging back tab curtains, our detailed instructions will help you through the process. Rest assured, it's a straightforward task that requires patience rather than complexity!

Checking the Width

Before hanging the curtains, use a tape measure to check the required width. It's best to adjust the curtain width a few centimeters wider than needed so you don't have to pull each side to make them meet in the middle when hung.

Determining Position

Determine the position of the tabs on the curtain rod. Ensure the tabs are evenly spaced so the curtains hang neatly.

Hanging the Curtains

Slide the curtain rod through each back tab, ensuring the front and outer edges of the curtain face towards the window. Place the final tab between the bracket and the finial.

Securing the Curtains

Make sure each tab is securely placed on the rod. If you have assistance, ask a friend to help support the weight of the curtains to prevent them from shifting during hanging.

Adjusting the Curtains

Once all the tabs are in place, adjust the curtains to hang evenly and ensure the pleats are straight.Once everything is done, sit back and admire your beautifully hung curtains.

All finished...great job!

We're confident that your curtains now look stunning and professionally done. Time to sit back and enjoy a well-deserved drink of your choice.
